L&T and Tata Steel

The DPCL or Dhamra Port Company Limited is a 50:50 joint venture between India's largest steel manufacturing company TATA Steel and Larsen & Toubro, one of the largest private sector engineering companies in India. TATA Steel was established in 1907 with the Jamshedpur Steel Plant, which had a production of 5 MTPA in 2008. The company has also taken over NatSteel Asia (2 MTPA) and Millennium Steel (1.7 MTPA) expanding their business in the South East Asian and Pacific rim countries.

Larsen and Toubro is an engineering and construction company, with diversifications into the manufacturing, services and information and technology sectors. L&T is highly technology driven and has a global presence with offices spread across the world. The company was established in 1938. As part of their construction and engineering portfolio, the company specialises in process technology, basic and detailed engineering, equipment fabrication, procurement, project management, erection, construction and commissioning.

DPCL has been awarded a concession by the Government of Orissa for 34 years, including 4 years for construction time for the Dhamra port. The company will build and operate in the Bhadrak District of Orissa, what will be the deepest seaport in India. The port will handle 83 million tonnes of dry bulk per annum and shall have 13 berths in the first phase.
